You Cannot Serve God and Money – Ephesians 2:1-3 says: “Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world (the prince of the power of the air, NKJV). He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.
The scripture quoted above informs us that the world has a Master that many people obey. This Master, the Devil, deploys his power through the unseen realm around us, to create thought patterns and emotions in us that are anti-God. The battle ground is our hearts and minds.
In the market, one way by which the Devil deploys his power against us is through worries, anxieties, and fears as regards our work tasks, businesses, and finances. God and His presence cannot be felt by a mind filled with worries, anxieties, and fears. This allows the Devil to deprive us of peace in our hearts and minds, and the benefits that should be ours in the market. You see, we need to be delivered from the power of the Devil in the air, and establish holiness in our hearts and minds, before we can possess that which is rightly ours in the market (Obadiah 17).
The objective of this series is to teach you how to focus your heart and mind on the things of God as you go through each day. The Bible teaches that we are worshippers of Mammon if we do otherwise (Matthew 6:24-25). You cannot serve God and money at the same time. Our hearts and minds must be filled with prayers, worship, and adoration of God during any given day. When you make this a daily practice, you will see God intervene and make situations work out in your favour at work and in business.
