The Glory of Christ in the Market – ‘Glory’ is great admiration, honour, and praise that you earn by achieving something. It is great beauty or something that is very beautiful or excellent. Many people have attained to certain levels of glory by virtue of their achievements in career and business. For example, the list of the richest people in the world is a hall of fame of those who exhibit glory in the market. For this category of people, their glory is measured by their net worth in US dollars.
Jesus Christ has His own flavour of glory that He demonstrates in the market. It is unique, holy, honourable, great, and beautiful. It is not measured in US dollars. It was what Jesus had when he declared: “The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.” (Matthew 12:42)
The Glory of Christ is the glory of the word of God. It is the honour, beauty, and excellence of God’s words when they are spoken and obeyed/fulfilled. It is the glory of a Son fully yielded to obey whatever the Father says. It can be asked to suffer, it is still glory; it can be requested to be modest, and it will still be glory; and it can be lifted up to the heavens, and it will still be all glorious. The focus is obedience to the word of God, no more, no less. John 1:14 describes it: “And the Word became flesh and dwelled among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
The Glory of Christ in the market is achievements in career and business based only on the word of God. This concept was perfectly captured for us by Agur Jakeh in Proverbs 30:5-9. It says: “Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar. Two things I request of You (Deprive me not before I die): Remove falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches—Feed me with the food allotted to me; lest I be full and deny You, and say, “who is the Lord?” Or lest I be poor and steal, and profane the name of my God”. (NKJV)
