Reversing the ‘Curse’ of the Human Race – The human race is a special group of God’s creation. We were created with a crown of glory and honour. That is, we were given the authority and abilities to supervise all of God’s abundant creation and riches on earth. The scripture in Psalm 8:3-8 confirms this. It says: “When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers – the moon and the stars you set in place – what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honour. You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority – the flocks and the herds and all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and everything that swims the ocean currents.” (NLT)
The question then needs to be asked: do you live like someone who has been crowned with glory and honour, having authority over everything God has made? The answer for many human beings is NO. Instead, we find that the quality of life that we live is similar in varying degrees to that described in Lamentations 5.
Lamentations 5 – Remember, O Lord, what has come upon us; look, and behold our reproach! Our inheritance has been turned over to aliens, and our houses to foreigners. We have become orphans and waifs, our mothers are like widows. We pay for the water we drink, and our wood comes at a price. They pursue at our heels; we labour and have no rest. … Our fathers sinned and are no more, but we bear their iniquities. Servants rule over us; there is none to deliver us from their hand. We get our bread at the risk of our lives, because of the sword in the wilderness.
… The joy of our heart has ceased; our dance has turned into mourning. The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned! Because of this our heart is faint; because of these things our eyes grow dim; because of Mount Zion which is desolate, with foxes walking about on it. You, O Lord, remain forever; Your throne from generation to generation. Why do You forget us forever, and forsake us for so long a time? Turn us back to You, O Lord, and we will be restored; renew our days as of old, unless You have utterly rejected us, and are very angry with us! (NLT)
In this series we let you understand why human beings live what looks like ‘cursed’ lives. It is either we are sick or we are poor; or we have lost family members in an untimely manner. It can be that we could not hold down a marriage, or we struggle to have children. There is almost always something to sorrow over in our lives. This ‘cursed’ existence is due to a lying philosophy that was introduced into the human psyche in the garden at Eden. It is in you and me. And is the root cause of the wide gulf between our life experiences and what God designed them to be. You cannot have the best of God except you learn to reverse the impact of this ‘curse’ in your life.
